11 April: A sprint to Segovia

Harper said today "I thougth we would go to Spain because it wuold be fun." We had a fun day traveling to Segovia by train. We had a bit of a scare in getting there - we had to take the Cercanias (local train) from our neighborhood to the high speed train line, and then it wasn't clear how to get from the Cercanias trains to our train. By the time we figured it out we had a 5 minute rush to get there, running up stairs and trhough crowds carrying 2 toddlers and related gear. We were thrilled to board the train with minutes to spare.

On the train, the kids preffered reading books rather than looking out the window - they were excited to read the "Train" book on the train. The entire trip was full of a lot of reading!

Segovia was a bit chiller than we expected - the only time in the trip we pulled out the mittens. Cam lost his bear hat on this leg of the trip, so luckily this was as cold as it got.

The first sight we saw was the aqueduct, which we loved. We climbed up to the top and Eric and I spent some time looking out over it, while Harper and Cam ate pretzels and did a pretzel dance which was strange and hilarious.

We walked up to the top of teh city to see the cathedral, then slowly made our way back. The other highlight of Segovia was the roast suckling pig we had for lunch.

Back in Madrid, we hit 2 parks - Tirso de Molina, where Cam got to try out the "spanish teeter totter", and the park at Plaza Santa Ana, which was great for climbing.

We found a great tapas place with quick service, a small sit down table, and had gazpacho, eggplant, and mushrooms. The kids ate chocolate toast back at the apartment. Everyone was happy.

The most animated Harper and Cam were all day was playing with their dinosaurs back at the apartment before they went to bed. They were ecstatic. Cam says "parodacto".
